Volunteer Training

Welcome to the Tourette Association of America’s volunteer module training center.

Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer, whether that may be a Rising Leader, YA adult team member, Education In-Service Volunteer, or an Information and Referral Volunteer. The following steps will walk you through the process and provide you with the tools necessary to offer quality service and programming within your community.

Please note: if you are a Rising Leader or YA adult team member, you are only required to complete the Introduction to Tourette Syndrome module. If you are training to be an Education In-Service or Information and Referral Volunteer, please continue below to the custom modules after the Introduction to Tourette Syndrome module.

Step 1:

Introduction to Tourette Syndrome Module

This is the first module that is required and will help you:

  • differentiate between behaviors and symptoms
  • better understand the basic science of Tourette Syndrome
  • describe common treatment options and management strategies
  • describe common co-occurring conditions

The module is self-paced, which means you can partially complete the module and return later to complete it. Once finished, you will be prompted to take a post-test survey in order to download a certificate of completion.

Step 2:

Information and Referral

This is the second step to become a TAA Information and Referral Volunteer. Upon completion of the Introduction to Tourette Syndrome module, you will then take the Information and Referral Services module.

This module will prepare you to:

  • Understand your role and responsibilities as an Information and Referral volunteer.
  • Describe the services and resources offered by the Tourette Association of America (TAA).
  • Know where to direct those in need for additional information.
  • Follow the TAA protocol for information-collection and reporting to TAA National.
  • Display a clear understanding of TAA dos and don’ts associated with information and referral services

This module is also self-paced and can be taken at your leisure. Upon completion, you will be asked to complete a post-test survey and then be able to download the certificate of completion.

Step 3:

Send Proof of Certification

Once you have completed the two modules (Introduction to TS and Information and Referral Services) it is required to forward both downloaded certificates of completion to Heather Ramsey, Greater Carolinas Tourette Group Leader at

Congrats! You should now have everything you need to provide high-quality programming and services to your community. We appreciate your commitment and willingness to further contribute to the TS community!
